Discussion on the introduction of the planned Barnahus model in Latvia 🗓

Place:
Arendalsuka, Norvēģija
Host:
Finanšu ministrija

Connect and listen to a discussion about the introduction of the planned Barnahus or the Child’s Home model in Latvia. The nature of Barnahus, or the Child’s Home, is a new kind of approach to inter-institutional and inter-disciplinary cooperation between specialists in cases where children have suffered from or become witnesses to violence.

The discussion will take place today, August 17, 2023, at 20:00 within the framework of the Norwegian Negotiating Festival Arendalsuka, inspired by Norwegian and Icelandic colleagues who have long-term experience in implementing this model.

The basic concept of Barnahus or the Child’s Home, is to avoid exposing children to repeated interviews at several institutions in different locations in order to prevent the child from being re-traumatized, as well as to provide the child with the necessary support and rehabilitation.

The project “Support for implementation of Barnahus model in Latvia” is funded under the EEA Grants 2014-2021 programme “International police cooperation and combatting crime”. The project is implemented by the Ministry of Welfare. Programme operator is the Ministry of Interior.

The general objective of the project is to improve the system for protecting children’s rights by introducing the Barnahus or the Child’s Home model in Latvia.
