“FabLab Liepāja” invites young people to apply for the

Liepaja Municipal Education Department Science and Education Innovation Center`s digital production laboratory invites 15 – 18-year-old young people from Liepāja and Southern Kurzeme regions to apply for the interest education program “Digital Production Academy”.

Continuing the project “Development of Innovation center in Liepāja city”, the co-creation space “FabLab Liepāja” of the Liepaja Municipal Education Department Science and Education Innovation Center invites 15 – 18-year-olds to gain a unique experience – get acquainted with the digital production possibilities of “FabLab Liepāja”, improve their knowledge in the design development of interior items, and participate in the creation of a computer-aided design classroom at Ukstiņa street 17/23.

The program will take place from February 19 to April 26, and as part of it, young people will have the opportunity not only to spend time meaningfully and gain new experiences and contacts, but also to learn the creation of two-dimensional and three-dimensional digital designs, as well get acquainted with the operation of various digital production equipment, and with their help, practically creating useful objects. There will also be practical educational classes on interior design, design thinking and non-formal education activities.

The program will be implemented in several stages:

  1. From February 19 – 29, the practical theoretical part, where lectures and classes will be held on design thinking, creation of 2D and 3D digital designs, interior design and equipment operation;
  2. From March 4 – 28, open access or the experimental part, in which young people will create personalized prototypes for the chosen object and present them;
  3. From April 8 – 24, the practical part, in which young people will create the chosen object using digital production equipment;
  4. On April 26 – the end of the program with presentations by young people and awarding of the best works.

During the program, every young person will have the opportunity to cooperate with mentors, who will provide support both in the creation of object design and in its practical development and presentation. At the end, on April 26, there will be presentations of the created objects and an event dedicated to it specifically for young people.

Young people are invited to apply for the program by filling out a questionnaire about themselves and their motivation by February 14.

Transport compensation will be provided to young people whose place of residence is outside of Liepāja city. You can find out about the procedure for applying to the Digital Production Academy and reimbursement of transport expenses on the ZIIC website.

Digital Production Academy – work tools, teaching aids and teaching materials of the digital production laboratory “FabLab Liepāja” is financed within the framework of the “Development of Innovation Center in the City of Liepaja” project of the European Economic Area and Norwegian grant program “Research and Education”. The total cost of this project is EUR ir 1 025 341,78  of which EUR 784 386,37 is co-financing from Norwegian grants, EUR 138 421,13 is co-financing from the Latvian state budget, and EUR 102 534,28 is co-financing from the municipality of Liepaja.
