Additional funding allocated for the EEA and Norway Grant Programme activity “Innovation Centers”

At the end of November 2023 the State Education Development Agency (SEEDA) signed an amendment to the agreement with the co-financing beneficiaries (project implementers) of the European Economic Area and the Norwegian grant programme (hereinafter – EEA and Norway Grants) for the period 2014 – 2021 of the programme’s “Research and Education” activity “Innovation Centres” on the allocation of additional funding. The amendments provide for the allocation of EUR 35 363,50 per project for the implementation of additional activities. Project implementers could apply for additional funding until October 18, 2023.

The total funding available to achieve the additional results and outputs was 141 454,00 euro, with 35 363,50 euro allocated to each project respectively. Of this, 90% is co-financed by the EEA and Norway Grants and 10% by the project implementers.

The project ” Development of Innovation centre in Daugavpils City” will run until March 31, 2024 and the additional funding will be used to continue implementation of educational programmes created within the project and organization of STEAM days, which include workshops, an exhibition on scientific discoveries and inventions, community engagement activities and a STEAM challenge for schools.

The project “Development of Innovation Centre in Cesis” is also scheduled to run until March 31, 2024 and the additional funding will enable implementation of more educational workshops and training programmes for students and teachers, as well as the development of adventure kits for families. An adventure kit is a set of activities for children and their parents on a variety of STEM-related topics through the space domain.

The project ” Development of Innovation Center in Liepaja City” will be implemented until  April 30, 2024, and the additional allocated funding will be used to develop and implement the educational program of interest “Exploration of the Baltic Sea” in the co-creation space Nature House and the creation of the computer-aided design co-creation space Digital Manufacturing Laboratory “FabLab Liepaja”.

The project “Development of Innovation centre in Ventspils city” will run until April 30, 2024, and the allocated funding will ensure the development and implementation of one additional educational program for students of grades 5-9 in the field of environmental studies, as well as the purchase and installation of new additional equipment, which will be integrated into the new educational program.

The activity “Innovation Centers” is one of the components of the “Research and Education” program, which is financially supported by the EEA and the Norwegian grant program. The program in Latvia is implemented by the Ministry of Education and Science and the State Education Development Agency. The purpose of the activity is to improve the development of knowledge in STEM fields, as well as to promote career development by developing new educational and training programs for teachers, students and pupils in STEM fields.
