Experts from the State Forensic Science Bureau visit the Lithuanian State Forensic Medicine Service in Vilnius

As part of the implementation of activity 3.2.5 of the EEA Grants project No. EEZ/TM/2022/7 “Strengthening of the capacity of forensic system and inspection of the site of the event” Zigismunds Ganuļevičs, Head of the Thanatology Department and Senior Forensic Medical Expert, Jūlija Truskovska, Forensic Medical Expert of the Thanatology Department, Juris Ivulāns, Head of the Clinical Forensic Medicine Department and Senior Forensic Medical Expert, and Ilona Markeviča, Senior Forensic Medical Expert of the Clinical Forensic Medicine Department, visited the Lithuanian State Forensic Medicine Service for an experience-sharing visit from October 10th to 12th, 2024.

During the visit, the Centre’s experts familiarized themselves with the structure and operations of the Lithuanian State Forensic Medicine Service, visited the autopsy unit and laboratories, and participated in performing autopsies. They also discussed current issues related to forensic examinations of deceased persons and addressed questions related to conducting commission examinations. Discussions with colleagues also covered topics related to the quality management system, the LST EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018 standard, and its application in forensic medical examinations of both living persons and the deceased.
