NORWAY GRANTS PROMOTE AUTOMATION OF PRODUCTION PROCESSES AT SIA EHT FABRIK

EHT FABRIK has completed the project to automate its production processes. The 817 thousand euro investment will create opportunities for new products and increase the company’s competitiveness. This is one of the four projects in the field of information and communication technologies (ICT) for the Norwegian Financial Mechanism’s 2014–2021 programme “Business Development, Innovation and SME’s” open call “Application of green industry innovation and ICT products and technologies”.

This Norwegian grant programme enabled the company to purchase new automated equipment, allowing it to expand its range of services. Thanks to this project, we will be able to provide a higher precision surface and welded seams in serial production. The project will enable us to improve our competitiveness, increasing our export potential to 96%,” says Gusts Sekacis, CEO of EHT FABRIK.

The metalworking company EHT FABRIK was founded in 2003. During its early years of operation, the company focused on producing non-standard metal structures and industrial design objects. Automated outlet/store equipment was manufactured in serial production. From 2007, the company changed its focus and abandoned its previous business profile, allowing it to become a high-precision sheet processing company. The relatively narrow business niche opened up new opportunities and export potential for the company. “EHT FABRIK had to adapt to new demands, standards, a more responsible approach to resources, knowledge transfer and sustainable policies.

The company is currently positioned as one of the leading precision sheet metal fabrication companies in Latvia and the Baltics, producing metal components for electronics, optics, audio and complex indoor industrial equipment. The company can provide serial production, technologically efficient solutions and new product development.

As a result of the project, EHT FABRIK SIA increased production automation by introducing new products, including serial production of high-precision sheet metal parts. Furthermore, the company improved the performance of its production process, improving productivity and competitiveness in international markets.

The total cost of the project reached 817,480 euro, with the Norwegian Financial Mechanism grant amounting to 442,464 euro. To achieve the project’s goal, EHT FABRIK SIA purchased and installed two new robotic machines: a high-precision robotic bending press and a welding robot. In addition to the equipment, EHT FABRIK SIA has completed a full training and testing course for the new equipment. As a result of the project, four new jobs have been created.

The company expects to increase its export potential to 96% by improving the performance of production processes with the new equipment, with direct exports from the new equipment accounting for around 30% of total exports.

19 projects received grants ranging from 223 thousand to as high as 599 thousand euro, as part of the open call “Application of green industry innovation and ICT products and technologies” programme of the Norwegian Financial Mechanism. According to the rules of the open call, the total amount of co-financing available to winners is 8.5 million euro, which is intended to fund 45 to 55 percent of the total cost of their projects.

The purpose of the funding programmes conducted by the Norwegian Financial Mechanism is to encourage the creation of added value and sustainable development in Latvian businesses. The programme provides funding to small and medium enterprises in three sectors: green innovations, information and communication technologies (ICT), and welfare technologies. The programme’s total funding earmarked for supporting businesses is 14.7 million euro, of which Norway provides 12.5 million, and Latvia, 2.2 million. LIAA manages the programme, which is to continue until 30 April 2024.
