Programmes “Business Development” mid-term was celebrated with conference and Cooperation Committee meeting

On April 21, 2023, the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA) as the Programme operator of the Norway Grants programme “Business Development” organized the mid-term conference “The Key to Success – Norway Grants”. The conference took place within the framework of the The Baltics’ largest deep tech industry event “Deep Tech Atelier”, where more than 1400 participants from 40 countries gathered in Riga for two days.

Before the mid-term conference, the morning began with Cooperation Commitee meeting. The meeting was attended by LIAA Director General Kaspars Rožkalns, LIAA Deputy Director for Investment and Energy Affairs Laura Štrovalde, Innovation Norway representative, representatives of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, as well as a representative of the Financial Instrument Office. During the Cooperation Commitee meeting, the achieved results by the programme in the mid-term, the challenges of the programme, as well as the measures to promote bilateral cooperation, which are planned within this year, were discussed.

The mid-term conference was opened by Norwegian ambassador to Latvia – Ine Måreng, Director General of LIAA Kaspars Rožkalns and representative of the “Innovation Norway” programme Magnar Ødelien. Director General of LIAA Kaspars Rožkalns, during the opening remarks, emphasized: “The Norway Grants programme is aimed at sustainable growth and with the achieved results, it will be able to achieve its goals in the middle stage of the program. From the country’s perspective, sustainability is one of the prerequisites for stable economic growth. Only through sustainable innovation can we create products and services with high added value”. Also, the representative of the Financial Mechanism Office, Margrethe Gams Steine Asserson, participated in the mid-term conference.

At the conference, the representatives of the “Business Development” Programme presented the results achieved in the mid-term of the programme implementation period. During the conference the project promoters had the opportunity to tell about their projects, and during the panel discussion panelists discussed the impact of innovations in achieving climate goals. At the same time, a practical workshop on industrial design was organized, led by Anders Mellbergs, the leading designer of the Norwegian design company EKER DESIGN AS.
The Deep Tech Atelier conference also featured a large EXPO area where entrepreneurs and support organizations provided information and presented their products. Project promoters of the programme, as well as start-ups, which create ideas and prototypes with the support of the Technology Business Center, took part in the EXPO zone.
