Daugavpils Innocation centre invites STEM educators to apply for the final training cycle

Daugavpils University, in cooperation with Daugavpils City Municipality, invites STEM educators to participate in the final training cycle, which is focused on a competency-based approach for STEM specialists.

The aim of informal continuing education training for teachers is to improve the knowledge, skills and competences of teachers in the field of STEM education and teaching methodology, promoting the acquisition of innovative knowledge and offering new learning tools, thus providing research-based knowledge and strengthening the ability of teachers to inspire and motivate, as well as support young people to focus more for studying natural sciences, technology and business and choosing a career in the STEM field, realizing your future goals and the sustainable development of society.

Participation in the training is free. The training is planned in a hybrid form – both online and practical lessons – in person, in Daugavpils. Accommodations will be provided as needed. Training participants will receive a certificate of the learned topics in the amount of 60 academic hours.

Tasks of the programme: to improve the professional competence of STEM pedagogues of general education schools and interest education pedagogues, to promote the deepening of the understanding of STEM general education and interest education pedagogues about the course of the modern pedagogical process and the peculiarities of organization.

Course of the programme: lecturers with rich and high-quality professional experience in the relevant fields, experience in working with teachers not only in Latvia, but also in other European countries are involved in the implementation of the program, which indicates the ability to work in diverse learning environments using innovative teaching methods.

Programme Content: programme content is structured flexibly and will be tailored to the interests of the target audience. The course programme allows STEM specialists to get a comprehensive idea of ​​the overall content of the program and at the same time to delve deeper by analyzing current and specific issues of pedagogical content in the context of the competence approach.

The training takes place in the framework of the European Economic Area and Norwegian grants 2014-2021 programme “Research and education” activity “Innovation centers” project “Creating an innovation center in Daugavpils”.

Training topics:

1. Competence approach challenges for STEM field teachers, learning process in digitalization conditions. Informal methods for developing skills in STEM.

2. The story of Stromant: from the holistic context of life processes to a sustainable window sill

3. Nanotechnology in our everyday life

4. Improving research skills in the process of learning chemistry

5. Applied or applied fields of STEM – Earth remote sensing and GIS in natural science education.

6. ICT technologies in the learning process

7. Skills for Growth and the Future: Methods and Approaches for STEM Teachers. 

8. Business environment
