Ventspils Science Centre VIZIUM now open

On June 18, at 12.00 a.m., with a rich festive programme, an opening of the science center VIZIUM took place. The birthday of the Science Centre was chanted with a variety of free activities and workshops taking place outside the Science Centre building, while the mood of the festivities and musical accompaniment were taken care of by the VIZIUM ambassador – DJ Toms Grēviņš.

At 12.00 a.m., the new long-awaited science centre VIZIUM was officially opened with the address of Ventspils Mayor Jānis Vītoliņš and Director of the Ventspils Digital Centre Elīna Kroņkalne. In turn, various interesting free activities were prepared in the territory of the Science Centre, in which both older and younger festival visitors could participate.

At the opening festival, everyone had the opportunity to see gorgeous science shows and experiments taking place onstage at noon 12.30, 13.45 and 15.00. The Ventspils Digital Centre prepared several technically creative workshops where you could play robot football, perform Minecraft’s task, create own key fob and torch. Various activities and surprises were also prepared by the Centre for New Natural Sciences researchers (Ventspils University), Ventspils Design Workshop RADE, Brain games, Ventspils Youth Home and Elektrum.

Everyone had the opportunity to move properly and experience adrenaline in the laser tag team game, both on the pitch and in virtual reality, but if someone didn’t feel safe enough for the game, they had the opportunity to practice and test their ability to hit the target. You could also compete on a motor racing simulator and a radio-controlled car track. Similarly, the youngest of visitors had access to face painting.

VIZIUM also took care of the surprise awards for the most eye-catching visitors, who reflected their participation in the Science Center’s birthday celebrations on their social networks using the #revealVIZIUM hashtag.

All activities that took place outside the Science Centre were free of charge, but it will be possible to attend the Science Centre exhibition by purchasing an entrance ticket to the Science Centre according to the indicated price list. More information can be found on the VIZIUM social features (@viziumventspils) as well as on the www.vizium.lv website.

Activity is implemented within the framework of the project “Establishment of an Innovation Centre in Ventspils” of the Programme “Research and Education” of the European Economic area and Norway grants for the period of 2014-2021.
