63 enterprises submitted project applications for the open call of the Norway grants Business and Innovation programme

In support of the introduction of green industry innovation and IT solutions for the production of new products, 63 enterprises submitted applications for a total grant amount of 42.6 million euros. The conditions of the open call for the Norway grants Programme “Application of green industry innovation and ICT products and technologies” stipulates that the enterprises will be able to receive aid in the form of grants of up to 200 and 6000 thousand euros. The aid intensity of the call is between 45% and 55% of the eligible costs.

“We may be pleased that Latvian enterprises have assessed this opportunity and have actively submitted their projects. It is an excellent opportunity to increase the competitiveness and export potential by introducing new product manufacturing and digital solutions. While reviewing the submitted projects, we see that entrepreneurs are most interested in purchasing environmentally friendly production equipment that would increase productivity and export opportunities. Given the interest, we will be able to provide support for every fourth project, therefore we are already working on new support instruments to further stipulate the introduction and digitalization of green technologies in the Latvian economy. This is the way we can increase the added value of goods and services produces in Latvia” highlights Kaspars Rožkalns, Director General of Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA).

The objective of the call is to promote the increase of productivity and competitiveness of entrepreneurs by introducing new products and technologies into production. Out of the total 63 project applications submitted, 51 were submitted in the field of green industry innovation, where the total requested Norway grants support is 38.23 million euros, while 12 project applications were received in the field of information and communication technologies with Norway grants support of 4.37 million euros. The total allocation of the Norway grants for this programme activity amounts to 8.49 million euros, of which 5.85 million has been allocated for green industry innovation, while 2.64 million euros has been allocated for the introduction of a new product in the field of information and communication technologies.

Support will be provided to enterprises registered in Latvia who correspond to the status of small (micro) or medium-sized enterprise. Enterprises may also attract a project partner, who may be any public or private legal entity established in the Kingdom of Norway or Republic of Latvia and who has the necessary competence to help apply new products.

It should be emphasized that 47 of the 63 projects have been submitted in partnership with one of the legal entities established in the Kingdom of Norway, which opens wider opportunities for further cooperation with Norway and other Nordic countries.

The programme funding will support the creation of at least 15 new production plants or their modernisation by making production processes more automated and environmentally friendly and at the same time creating at least 50 new jobs and promoting the growth of the turnover and export performance.

Project applications for the open call could have been submitted from 14th April to 30th June. The decision to provide Norway grants support to entrepreneurs for the introduction of new products and technologies in production will be made by LIAA by 31st October 2021, but the implementation of the first project will start in January 2021.
