Semi-annual news of the Regional Development and Culture programme

Today, on 15 June 2021, a meeting of the Cooperation Committee of the European Economic Area Grants Regional Development and Culture Programme (programme) took place online. During the meeting, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development (MEPRD), the Ministry of Culture and the Latgale Planning Region together with Norwegian Ambassador to Latvia Kristian Ødegaard, the Norwegian Association of Local and Regional Authorities, the Norwegian Arts Council, the Financial Mechanism Office and the Ministry of Finance discussed the progress of the implementation of the programme in the last six months and the most important topical issues.

At the opening of the meeting, the Ambassador of Norway to Latvia, Kristian Ødegaard, praised the work done by the MEPRD, the Programme Partner, the Grant Scheme Operator and the Donor Programme Partners in launching the programme.

Already at the end of 2020, the submission of pre-defined project applications of the programme was announced, but by now all projects have been evaluated and the conclusion of project agreements has started. In turn, this year on March 31, the first open call of culture “Support for the Creation of Professional Art and Cultural Products for Children and Youth” was announced, in which the submission of project applications will end by July 2 this year. As well as the day of announcing the grant scheme call “Support for the implementation of business ideas in Latgale” is approaching fast and is planned this week, thus ensuring that all activities planned in the programme have been successfully started.

During the meeting also was discussed the successful bilateral cooperation in the organization of the programme opening event and the development of pre-defined project applications, as well as actively discussed the programme’s participation in the Conversation festival Lampa, where this year’s discussions will focus on culture and its role in the ecosystem of social change. The Ambassador and partners from donor countries welcomed the possibility of an online translation to English in parallel with the face-to-face attendance during the pandemic, thus promoting bilateral cooperation and the visibility of grants.

In conclusion, the parties involved in the implementation of the program acknowledged that successful cooperation has been established, which provides confidence in the achievement of the set goals.

Working together for a competitive Europe.
