Funding has been granted for the remediation of three historically polluted sites

With the help of Norway Grant, investments in the rehabilitation of Latvia’s environment are continued. Within the framework of the Open call “Mitigation of Risks Related to Historically Contaminated Sites”, three of the five submitted projects has been approved, thus by spring 2024 significant remediation works will be performed in historically polluted sites of Daugavpils region, Liepāja and Ventspils for the total amount of 11.9 million EUR, including 10.1 million EUR or 85% is co-financed by a Norwegian grant.

Within the framework of all projects, in addition to rehabilitation works, extensive public information campaigns will be implemented in cooperation with the non-governmental sector, as a result of which the public’s awareness of current environmental and climate issues will be increased. Bilateral co-operation with Norwegian organizations will also be strengthened within the framework of the projects, exchanging experience in the implementation of such projects.

Working together for a green Europe.
