Since the last meeting of the Cooperation Committee, MoEPRD, in cooperation with the Donor Programme Partner, the Norwegian Environment Agency, have successfully made progress in implementing the Climate and Environment Programme. Implementation of both pre-defined projects of the Climate and Environment Programme have started – the project “Integration of climate change policy in sectoral and regional policies” implemented by the MoEPRD and the project “Enhancement of sustainable soil resource management in agriculture” implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture.

The Open Call “Mitigation of Risks Related to Historically Contaminated Sites” has also been concluded and in the meeting was discussed the process of selection of project applications and the expected results of the Open Call. It is planned to start the implementation of projects this year in the 3rd quarter, thus contributing to the mitigation of historical contamination in Latvia.

Also discussion was about the possibility of using the surplus funding of the Open Call, proposing an idea to organize pre-defined project to establish an improved model/system for the management of contaminated sites. Members of the Cooperation Committee supported the new idea, and it was agreed to continue work on the proposal in order to contribute to better monitoring of contaminated sites.

In conclusion, the representatives of the Norway and the Ambassador of Norway to Latvia, Kristian Ødegaard, praised the progress of the implementation of the Programme and the work done. The parties involved in the implementation of the programme acknowledged that the established successful cooperation provides confidence in the achievement of the set goals.
