Progress of the Climate and Environment Programme has been discussed

Today, on 26^th of November 2020, the Cooperation Committee discussed the progress of implementation of the Norway Grants Programme “Climate Change Mitigation, Adaptation and Environment” and flexible solutions for bilateral cooperation.

Intensive work is underway to ensure the implementation of the Norway Grants Climate and Environment Programme. Participants at the Cooperation Committee meeting discussed the Open Call “Reduction of risks related to historically polluted territories” planned project application evaluation process, so that already in the 2^nd quarter of 2021 the implementation of projects could be started, thus contributing to the reduction of historical contamination.

The implementation progress of the pre-defined projects was also discussed. An agreement on the pre-defined project “Integration of Climate Change Policy into Sectoral and Regional Policies” was signed in early November, and the development and implementation of climate change policy instruments for integration into sectoral and regional policies, including regional data collection and reporting, was launched. In January 2021, it is planned to sign an agreement and launch the activities of the pre-defined project “Enhancement of sustainable soil resource management in agriculture” by taking measures to improve climate policy planning and update national soil data, thus promoting sustainable land management and strengthening capacity to adapt to climate change.

Taking into account the current situation regarding the spread of Covid-19, bilateral co-operation was also discussed in the Cooperation Committee, so that the good implementation of the Programme could be continued and co-operation between Latvia and Norway could be promoted.
