On November 4 of 2020, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development (MoEPRD) within the framework of the Norway Grants climate and environment programme signed an agreement on the implementation of the pre-defined project “Integration of Climate Change Policy into Sectoral and Regional Policies”.

MoEPRD in cooperation with project partners Norwegian Environment Agency, Central Statistical Bureau and State limited Liability Company “Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Center” will implement activities by 28 September 2023, which includes the development of several climate change policy planning tools, development of the electronic database on ozone-depleting substances and F-gases, update of the Latvian climate change scenario for 2100, and improvement of the national warning system in relation to meteorological phenomena, as well as the assessment of the Latvian coastal erosion and develop solutions for its prevention. The project aims to integrate climate change policy in areas such as finance, insurance, construction of buildings, roads and railways, land use planning and re-planning. In project it is also planned to introduce a new study course for municipal employees on climate change mitigation and adaptation.
