The EEA Grants project “Promoting cooperation between law enforcement authorities in preventing and combating economic crime in Latvia” has been successfully completed

The EEA Grants 2014-2021 programme’s co-funded project “Promoting cooperation between law enforcement authorities in preventing and combating economic crime in Latvia” was successfully completed on April 30, 2024.

Within the framework of the project, a unified digital intelligence environment has been created, which already enables data exchange between the State Revenue Service (SRS) Tax and Customs Police Department and the databases of the Ministry of the Interior Information Center. It is planned that in the near future, data exchange in this environment will also take place with the State Police.

The new system will ensure fast and efficient information exchange in the fight against organized crime. The unified digital intelligence environment is designed as a progressive digital platform for the use of SRS Tax and Customs Police Department analysts, operational officers, and investigators to accelerate investigations and facilitate the detection of criminal offenses.

During the project, a digital infrastructure was created, data analysis and entity risk analysis systems were developed and implemented, and the functionality of the Integrated Risk Information System was supplemented, collectively forming a unified intelligence environment. To successfully achieve the project’s goal, legislative amendments were initiated and system users – analysts and specialized task experts – were trained.

The project implementation began on July 3, 2020, with the aim of developing a unified digital intelligence environment and training analysts and special task experts to facilitate information exchange between law enforcement agencies in Latvia. During the project implementation, 2,197,000 euros were spent. The created system will ensure modern inter-institutional cooperation – information exchange in the field of economic crimes.
