On the 5th of July 2024, during LAMPA Conversation festival which is one of the most important culture and think tank event in Latvia, the conversation on “hot” topic “can or can’t we afford to be green?” was organized by the programme “Climate and Environment”. The discussion took place in the “Norwegian tent” representing the EEA and Norway grants programmes in Latvia.
A conversation was moderated by Ilze Pruse representing the Ministry of Climate and Energy. She encouraged participants of the conversation to seek answers on climate change in Latvia and our ability to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Unfortunately, they have constantly been increasing during last decades.
Valdis Melderis, who is well known radio and event moderator, took part in conversation, as well as Edgars Fedcenko, enthusiast for climate friendly lifestyle, and Mara Sleja – TV presenter and model. All of the mentioned above participants usually host their own events and conversations, challenging various audiences by asking questions and listening to various opinions, so they have heard a variety of different opinions.
A conversation or in other words – honest conversation was attracting wide audience which actively participated and asked a lot of questions, as well as expressed their opinions. Participants discussed about activities concerning the efforts to reduce the greenhouse gas emmissions and how to involve society to act and think more how to adopt eco-friendly and sustainable habits.
The event in the “Norwegian tent” was organized by the Ministry of Finance in cooperation with the Ministry of Smart Administration and Regional Development and the Ministry of Climate and Energy. The discussion carried out in the LAMPA Conversation festival approved that there is a great interest to discuss on climate issues and looking for practical solutions in everyday life. The event also provided an opportunity for wider audience to consider about the scale of the issue and what we can do more for sustainable future.
