On 27-28 May, 2024, the Research Council of Norway held an event in Brussels on ” Widening the Reach of EU Missions through EEA and Norway Grants”, which assessed the contribution of the EU Mission and EEA programmes to the mission objectives and discussed the development of the EEA Research Programme in the next period. The event provided participants with the opportunity to learn about the 4 EEA Research Conferences, which assessed their synergies with the EU Missions, as well as the objectives, activities and planned calls for proposals of the EU Missions.
The first day of the event focused on presenting the results of the EEA and Norway Grants, which create synergies and complementarities with the five EU missions, exchanging information and experiences, and engaging in dialogue with stakeholders in Brussels.
On the second day of the event, several working groups were organised to explore and identify key areas where EEA and Norway Grants can contribute to the five EU missions. The working groups formulated concrete future cooperation and development activities, as well as recommendations for the future development of the EEA Programme.
The Baltic Research Programme’s involvement in EEA Research Programme activities on synergies between EEA programmes and EU missions was also presented at the event. In 2023, several Baltic Research Programme Latvian project promoters participated in various EEA Research Programme conferences on synergies between EEA programmes and EU missions.
Project leaders of Latvian institutions and their partners participated in EEA Research Programme conferences: 14-15 February 2023 in Bucharest, Romania, at the conference “Working together for faster diagnosis and better treatment of cancer – Contribution of the EEA and Norway Grants to the EU Cancer Mission Conference”; 18 September 2023 at the conference “SOILCON – Ground for future cooperation in Europe” on synergies between the EEA and Norway Grants and the EU mission “A Soil Deal for Europe”, organised by the Czech Technology Agency, in Prague, as well as in 21-22 November 2023 in Warsaw, Poland, at the conference „EEA & Norway Grants contributions to EU Missions on Adaptation to climate change including societal transformation and Climate-neutral and smart cities”.
Participation in these conferences was an excellent opportunity to learn about research projects from other countries, share experiences and gain new knowledge and contacts for future project development.
