The lecturers of Ventspils Digital Center participated in the exchange of experience at the Norwegian Science Center

From April 26 to May 3, representatives of Ventspils Digital Center paid an exchange visit to the Norwegian Science and Experiment Center “Vilvite” in Bergen, which is a partner of the science center “VIZIUM” within the project “Establishment of an Innovation Center in Ventspils” to learn how to develop, organize and implement curricula and family activities in Ventspils science centre “VIZIUM”.

During the visit, the lecturers of Ventspils Digital Center had the opportunity to get acquainted with the curriculum and creative workshops of the Vilvite Science Center, as well as to work with students in several classes, learning about the impact of ecosystems, hydropower and climate change on the world. Like VIZIUM, curricula at the Bergen Science Center are linked to exhibits. This exchange of experience is especially valuable because it allows you to feel like a visitor and understand what the intended result should be.

One of the main goals of the exchange of experience was to gain an understanding of the basic principles and organization of work in science shows and creative workshops, as well as how to use these principles at the VIZIUM Science Center. The educators of the digital center had the opportunity to look behind the scenes of science shows and learn various nuances related to the creation of show scripts, experiments, preparation and organizational matters, as well as the most important aspects to consider during the show.

Representatives of the digital center together with the teachers of “Vilvites” went to the local kindergarten to observe the organization of science shows for the youngest target audience. During the exchange visit, a prototype of the curriculum was tested on the topic – the human body, jointly analyzing errors and offering solutions. There were also discussions about planning summer activities.

The trip was implemented within the framework of the project “Establishment of an Innovation Center in Ventspils” of the activity “Innovation Centers” of the programme “Research and Education” of the European Economic Area and Norway grants for the period 2014–2021.
