Ventspils Digital Center in cooperation with the Norwegian Science Center “VilVite” develops educational curricula for students

As the opening of the science center “VIZIUM” approaches, not only premises are being furnished, but also educational content is being worked on. Representatives of Ventspils Digital Center in cooperation with colleagues of the Norwegian Science Center “VilVite” (Bergen) are working on the development of educational curricula for students, teachers and also for families with children who will attend the science center.

Ventspils Digital Center started cooperation with the science center “VilVite” in November 2020 and within the framework of the project “Establishment of the Innovation Center in Ventspils” will continue until July 2023. VilVite Science Center has a wealth of experience in both curriculum development and day-to-day operations of the Science Center. Representatives of both centers are currently participating in a cycle of digital workshops. The workshops will run until the end of March and a total of 3 online meetings are planned. Within the framework of the workshops, the representatives of the Bergen Science Center “VilVite” both share their experience in the implementation of educational programs and help to jointly develop curricula for the needs of the Science Center “VIZIUM”. Within the framework of the project “Establishment of an Innovation Center in Ventspils”, 20 different study programs in the field of STEM will be developed, including 16 programs for preschool children, for pupils and students, as well as 4 teachers of the program. There will also be 12 interactive learning activities – workshops and science shows. In the online workshops, the partners will present their achievements, ideas, progress, share comments and suggestions, thus helping each other with their vision and ideas.

During the online workshops, it is planned to develop two curricula that will be related to the exposition of the science center “VIZIUM” and are intended for preschool children and students. They aim to promote the development of knowledge and future career choices in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), science and information technology. Methods such as design thinking and logic model are used in the development of programs. It is planned that by the end of March, prototype curricula will be ready, which will be tested by inviting test groups of students.

This cooperation will also serve as a great activity for exchanging experiences. The VilVite Science Center has 15 years of experience in the field and collection of science centers, not only in connection with the science center exposition, so these workshops are a great opportunity to take over their good practice, knowledge and experience in the curriculum development process. training programs in the future.
