VIAA introduces the representatives of the approved projects of the Baltic Research Programme with the project implementation

On May 14, 2021, the State Education Development Agency (VIAA) organizes an informative online seminar for the Baltics Research Programme eight approved project implementers to introduce them to the legal framework of the programme, the conditions for the implementation of projects, as well as publicity requirements. Representatives from the University of Latvia, Riga Technical University, Institute of Solid State Physics, Latvian Biomedical Research and Study Center and Vidzeme University of applied Sciences participate in the seminar. Representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science (MoES) also participate in the seminar as programme operators.

At the seminar, VIAA representatives talk about the main goals of the programme and acquaint project implementers with the documents applicable during project implementation, project implementation conditions, reports, use of the online system, as well as the organization of communication and publicity events and activities. A total of 7,264,540.95 euros has been allocated to all eight projects by the end of 2024. Latvian research organizations establish cooperation with partners from research institutions in Norway, Lithuania, Estonia and Iceland.

On 19 August 2020, VIAA in cooperation with the MoES announced the 3rd open call of the Baltic Research Programme in Latvia, which is financially supported by grants from the European Economic Area and Norway (EEA/N). Latvian scientific institutions, which correspond to the status of a research organization, in cooperation with project partners – research organizations in Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Estonia, Lithuania, as well as other countries, could submit project applications until October 19, 2020. A total of 81 international cooperation project applications were submitted by research organizations in the call, followed by several months of project evaluation. On May 1, 2021, eight projects from Latvia started implementation.

The Baltic Research Programme supports the development of research-based knowledge in the Baltic States through research partnerships with researchers and research institutions in donor countries. At the same time, the programme strengthens relations with donor countries at the political level and the European level in areas of common interest, as well as addresses various challenges and problems in the Baltic and European Economic Area regions.

The Baltic Research Programme is one of the activities of the Research and Education Programme, which is financially supported by EEA/N grants. The programme promotes cooperation between research institutions of the Baltic States and research organizations in Lithuania, Estonia, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein. The programme is managed by the MoES, which is responsible for the implementation of the programme in Latvia, but VIAA is the programme implementer and performs project evaluation, implementation monitoring and control.
