Sixth Cooperation Committee meeting of the programme “Correctional Services” was held remotely

During restrictions determined due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the sixth Cooperation Committee meeting of Norway Grants for 2014–2021 programme “Correctional Services” was held  on 29 April 2020 via video conference.

During the conference, representatives of the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Finance, Latvian Prison Administration, State Probation Service, Financial Mechanism Office, as well as representatives from donor programme partner and donor project partners – the Directorate of Norwegian Correctional Service, Romerike Prison, and University College of Norwegian Correctional Service discussed the topical issues about the impact of the emergency situation on the programme and project* implementation.

The audience was honoured by His excellence, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway to Latvia Kristian Ødegaard, who appreciated in his speech the progress of the program and expressed his readiness to cooperate also further on, providing the necessary support in the implementation of the program.

Participants of the meeting discussed the impact of restrictions determined due to and within the framework of the pandemic on the implementation of the programme and project. As a result of that, bilateral cooperation activities between the beneficiary state and the donor state will be moved to 2021. While, other activities, including the procurement activity for the construction of the planned training centre and open prison block planned within the framework of the project, take place with a slight shift in terms of time. Taking into account the movement restrictions as well as uncertainty on minimisation thereof, participants of the meeting agreed on the video conference in June of the current year, whilst expressing hope that the next Cooperation Committee face-to-face meeting of the programme will take place in the first half of September 2020.

Working together for safe and inclusive Europe.
