Strengthened bilateral cooperation between the Norway Grants 2014-2021 programme operators from six European countries

On 29 March 2019 the first meeting of the international working group “Conferences and Seminars” took place in Lillestrøm, Norway. Over the course of the meeting, representatives of the donor country and programme operators from Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Bulgaria, and Czech Republic discussed topics requiring an international discussion and important for the professionals representing correctional services of the respective beneficiary countries.

From 17 to 18 January 2019 the Directorate of Norwegian Correctional Service organized in Bucharest, Romania an international meeting for the Norway Grants programme partners from the beneficiary countries and donor country. Over the course of the meeting, it was decided to establish three international working groups: “Education”, “Conferences and Seminars”, and “Evaluation and Indicators”, for the purposes of strengthening bilateral collaboration between the donor country and Norway Grants 2014-2021 programme operators from six European countries. The working groups will be chaired by representatives of the Directorate of Norwegian Correctional Service. The working groups will serve as a platform for exchange of experience, topical information and opinions as to the measures and activities planned within Norway Grants 2014-2021 programmes.

The first meeting of the international working group Conferences and Seminars took place on 29 March 2019 in Lillestrøm, Norway. Over the course of the meeting, representatives of the donor country and programme operators from Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Bulgaria, and Czech Republic discussed possibilities to apply to Joint Bilateral Fund, as well as topics of correctional services field requiring an international discussion and important for the professionals representing correctional services of the respective recipient countries. The Ministry of Justice,  as an  programme “Correctional Services” operator, was represented at the working group by Agnese Kleina, the Head of the Norway Grants Division, Project Department.

The first meeting of working group “Education” will take place from 23 to 24 April 2019 in Lillestrøm, Norway.

The overall funding of 2014–2021 programme amounts to EUR 15,294,118; 85% (EUR 13,000,000) are financed by the Norway Grants but 15% (2,294,118) are co-funded by the State budget. Furthermore, additional EUR 100,000 were granted for the activities of bilateral cooperation.
