On 26 March 2019 the Ministry of Justice held the fourth meeting of the Cooperation Committee of the Norway Grants 2014-2021 programme “Correctional Services” in order to discuss topical matters.
On 26 March 2019 the Ministry of Justice held the fourth meeting of the Cooperation Committee of the Norway Grants 2014-2021 programme “Correctional Services” (hereinafter – the Programme) in order to discuss topical matters among the representatives of Latvian and Norwegian correctional services. The meeting of the Cooperation Committee was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Finance, Latvian Prison Administration, Embassy of the Kingdom of Norway in Latvia, as well as representatives of the donor state from the Directorate of Norwegian Correctional Service, Correctional Service of Norway Staff Academy, Romerike Prison and non-governmental organization Wayback.
The meeting was used to discuss the course of the Programme, finished activities in relation to the planned Latvian Prison Administration’s project “Establishment of training centre infrastructure and model prison blocks for training opportunities in the Olaine prison territory”, as well as the project activities carried out by partners from the donor country.
The first meeting of the Cooperation Committee took place from 15 to 16 January 2018 in Riga; the second meeting of the Cooperation Committee was held from 7 to 9 May 2018 in Lillestrøm, Norway, but the third meeting of the Cooperation Committee took place from 31 October to 2 November 2018 in Liepaja.

The main purpose of the Norway Grants is to reduce social-economic differences between a donor country and recipient countries as well as to consolidate bilateral cooperation. The overall funding of 2014–2021 programme amounts to EUR 15,294,118; 85% (EUR 13,000,000) are financed by the Norway Grants but 15% (2,294,118) are co-funded by the State budget. Furthermore, additional EUR 100,000 were granted for the activities of bilateral cooperation.
