Reconstruction/renovation works in the first State Police objects have been finished

Within the scope of Norwegian finance instrument project LV08/3 “Improvement of standards for State Police short-term places of detention” realized by State Police, reconstruction/renovation works have been executed in 21 State Police object – 10 short-term detention centers and 11 places of temporary keeping in Latvia.

Reconstruction/renovation works in first objects were started on June, 2015, and up to December reconstruction/renovation works are executed in 20 objects. Due to financing of Norwegian finance instrument works in 5 State Police objects have been already finished and accepted – 4 place of temporary keeping in Riga Region Administration Latgale and Zemgale police stations, Olaine and Salaspils police stations, as well as works have been accepted in short-term detention center of Kurzeme region administration Liepaja police station on December 3, 2015.

The goal of reconstruction/renovation works is the implementation of unified standards for State Police short-term places of detention and places of temporary keeping, considering instructions on detained persons holding conditions made by the Council of Europe Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) – development of technical projects and works tasks were leaded by Council of Europe experts. Total financing of project is 2,8 million euros. Prevised that reconstruction/renovation works in 21 State Police object will be finished and accepted till April 30, 2016.
