
31st of January was the deadline for the assessment of all submitted project applications within the small grant scheme “Development of Welfare Technologies” of the Norwegian Financial Mechanism (Norway Grants) Programme “Business Development, Innovation and Small and Medium Enterprises” administered by the Latvian Investment and Development Agency (LIAA). As a result, nine project applications were approved, where 1 126 220 euros were granted as support from Norway Grants. Implementation of the projects will start in April of this year. Seven projects are planned to be implemented in cooperation with a Donor State (Norway) partner.
22 project applications were received in the area of welfare technologies, for the total amount of 2 693 574 euros as requested. The total grant amount allocated for this activity is 1.2 million euros.
Also, on 3rd January 2022, the evaluation of projects in the small grant scheme “Development of green industry innovation and ICT products” was completed. A total of 36 project applications were received, of which 34 were evaluated, including 16 projects in the area of Green Industry Innovation and 18 projects in the area of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). Seven projects were approved in the area of Green Industry Innovation. The support granted to these projects is 806 003 euros. In the area of ICT, 6 projects were approved with a grant of 745 015 euros. All thirteen projects will be implemented in cooperation with a Norwegian partner. The implementation of the projects will start in February this year.
The Norway Grants programme “Business & Innovation” also promotes bilateral cooperation and the development of partnerships between Latvia and Norway, allowing both internationally recognised specialists in the science sector and potential partners and investors to be attracted to the projects.

The total Norway Grants amount allocated for the programme “Business & Innovation” activities is 12.5 million euros, while the Latvian State co-financing is 2 205 882 euros.
