Bilateral cooperation visit with Norwegian partners takes place in Riga and Olaine

On 8 and 9 December 2021, Latvia hosts a bilateral cooperation visit of the Norway Grants 2014–2021 programme “Correctional Services”*, which brings together representatives of the programme and the project** from Latvia, as well as Kim Ekhaugen and Kristin Saunes Franklin from the Directorate of Norwegian Correctional Service (KDI).

During the visit, participants will discuss the progress of the programme in 2021, as well as the activities planned for 2022. The participants will also visit Olaine Prison, where it is planned to construct two new buildings – a Training Centre for Latvian correctional service staff and a Model prison block.

Although the COVID-19 pandemic has adjusted the agenda of cooperation between the two countries, the programme has shown that face-to-face visits are possible even in these difficult times. In line with epidemiological safety requirements, this will be the third visit to Latvia this year by representatives of the DCS, underlining that the connection between people is still of the highest value. The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Riga and his excellence Ambassador to Latvia Kristian Ødegaard, who always warmly welcomes KDI representatives and demonstrates an active interest in the progress of the programme, are also always supportive.

Working together for a safe and inclusive Europe.
