Additional funding is available for Baltic Research Program projects

The Latvian Council of Science invites Latvian project promoters of the Baltic Research Programme under the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism to apply for the allocation of additional funding for additional activities, prioritizing activities with the participation of Ukrainian researchers. Financing is available in the amount of EUR 276,266.00.

Latvian scientific institutions implementing project of Baltic Research Programme can submit a amendment of the project contract as request for funding of EUR 30,000 for additional activities involving Ukrainian researchers, as well as for other additional project activities. Ukrainian researchers may be involved in the additional activities of the projects as project research staff with a PhD degree (or its equivalent), a master’s degree, as well as candidats of scientific degree, PhD and master’s students. The period of eligibility for additional funding is from September 9, 2022 to April 30, 2024.

Project promoters shall submit a request for contract amendment electronically by January 10, 2023, by filling out the form and sending it to pasts@lzp.gov.lv. Appropriate attachments must be attached to the amendment request (for example, CV of researchers, updated Annex 1 of the project agreement, detailed budget of the project, etc.).

The Latvian Council of Science will evaluate the requests for amendment according to the administrative and quality criteria within 30 working days, they will be approved by the Programme Committee. The qualitative assessment will assess the compliance of additional activities with the project’s goal, tasks, as well as program results and outcome indicators, awarding 10 points if Ukrainian researchers are involved in the additional activities, 5 points for other additional activities, 2 points if the additional indicator “Joint project number of submissions for further funding”, and 2 points that the additional indicator “Number of jointly submitted peer-reviewed scientific publications” is achieved.

The Baltic Research Programme is one of the activities of the programme “Research and Education” under EEA and Norway grants. The programme promotes the cooperation of the research institutions of the Baltic States with the research organisations of Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein. The programme in Latvia is implemented by the Ministry of Education and Science and the Latvian Council of Science.
