MORE LIGHT! Youth building a harmonious and just society

Each place carries its own story. The museum of Eduards Veidenbaums and in his native home “Kalāči” also carries a story that has been relevant for more than a hundred years. The oak trees planted by Eduards Veidenbaum’s father cover everything with a refreshing shade, and a small log house is hidden in the corner of the garden – a garner where the poet lived during the summers and where most of his poems were written. At the end of July of this summer, young people met both in the Kalači garner and around the museum to discover the stories that live there, to discover what Weidenbaum included in his poems and in his writings, and to tell each other and to the world their own stories. As part of the art residencies of the project* – MORE LIGHT!, implemented by EEA grants, young people learned from Weidenbaum’s poetry through an interactive performance and developed both their skills and also helped the event’s visitors to strengthen their emotional well-being. At this closing event of the residency, “Healthy Protest,” the exclamations were more inward-looking, looking for what is interfering with our own well-being.

Watch a preview of the final event “Healthy Protest” and be inspired to paint the world around you with the colors that are important to you!

*At the beginning of 2022, within the framework of the EEA Grants Regional Development and Culture Programme managed by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development and Ministry of Culture, a valuable project was launched – “MORE LIGHT! Exhibition and art residencies in Eduards Veidenbaums museum Kalāči: youth building a harmonious and just society”, a tool for fostering contemporary culture processes”, which is implemented by the Association “Sansusī”  together with the Norwegian partners – Morten Bruun.
