Application for the 3rd Baltic Research Program Call Announced

On 19 August 2020, the State Education Development Agency (VIAA) in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science of Latvia (IZM) announces an application for the 3rd Baltic Research Program Call in Latvia, financially supported by the European Economic Area and Norway (EEA/N) grants.

Cooperative projects can be submitted in five science themes: public health and e-health, migration and social inclusion, cyber-security and public safety, regional economic development, employment, labour market regulation and social policy, and innovative solutions for efficient and sustainable use of resources. The project application must correspond to at least one of the sub-themes. The program supports the promotion of research-based knowledge development in the Baltic States through research partnerships with researchers and research institutions in Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein.

Latvian scientific institutions that correspond to the research organization status, in cooperation with project partners – research organizations in Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Estonia, Lithuania, as well as other countries, may submit applications until 19 October 2020. The deadline for the implementation of research projects is set for 30 April 2024. The total budget of the program in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia is 23.5 million. The budget chosen for the Latvian competition is 7 541 272 euros. More information about documents and guidelines for project applicants are available on this website.

The Baltic Research Program is one of the activities of the EEA/N Financial Instrument Program “Research and Education”. It offers extensive and sustainable opportunities for co-operation between researchers and research institutions in the Baltic States and donor countries to improve the position of the Baltic States in the Baltic Sea Region, the Baltic and Nordic Research Area, and at European and international level. At the same time, the program strengthens relations with donor countries at a political level and at the European level in areas of common interest.

The manager of the EEA/N grant program “Research and Education” is the IZM, which is responsible for the implementation of the program in Latvia. VIAA, in its turn, as a program implementer performs project evaluation, implementation monitoring and control.
